Esports students at the University of Northampton will soon benefit from access to EPIC.LAN’s in house tournament platform as part of their ongoing partnership with the UK-based esports operator. The platform, which is used from small grassroots tournaments up to global esports series, will be deployed as a dedicated instance for students to practice industry standards in esports operations, backed up by expert lectures and guidance from the EPIC.LAN team.
The platform is the latest addition to the partnership between EPIC.LAN and the University of Northampton, which started in 2021 as the local university to EPIC.LAN’s Kettering-based events with a growing programme of student visits and direct experience at the popular LAN events.
Jon Winkle, EPIC.LAN Managing Director, has been supporting the programme since the outset explained, “Our events already provide a fantastic practical experience to students at the University of Northampton, complemented by guest lectures from a range of team members in topics such as streaming, casting and event management. The addition of the tournament platform and associated training from the EPIC.LAN team will help to prepare students for the realities of esports operations going forwards in their careers.”
Dr Lucy Zhu, Programme Leader for Esports at the University of Northampton added “Our collaboration with EPIC.LAN has now been running for three years, with students undertaking visits and placements at EPIC.LAN events as well as guest lectures from experienced staff. Student feedback has been very positive with EPIC.LAN providing a valuable contact point in the industry that allows them to build their industry experience and employability skills even from their first year. The contribution to teaching and feedback has been invaluable, the partnership not only shows how the degree content is linked to best practice in the industry but also provides advice to students on future job seeking and networking opportunities.”

ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON
Come to the University of Northampton and you will see that we do things a bit differently.
We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact. We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too.
We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be. This has led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that you actually learn rather than the way you are expected to learn. Waterside Campus opened in September 2018.
We want to ensure that your experience studying with us enables you to transform your life and those of others too, no matter how great or small this may be.
